The owner is amazing. He is always out on the floor talking with people. Everyone things he's the bouncer! LoL. Good prices and great food. The place is hopping on Friday and Saturday night. Staff are always friendly.

Service was excellent. Steak tips and meatball sub were delicious! Highly recommend. It was crowded, but got seated right away!

The entrance door is very nondescript, fitting the "back room" feel. I slip in here when I want a cool draft on a hot day.

My wife and I found the Back Room after trying to go to another pub which turned out to be closed. The service was very good. Our server was attentive without being overbearing. My wife had a peach raspberry mule which is a variation on a Moscow Mule and was really good! They have a great selection of beer along with a full bar. It has the feel of a local tavern or bar. Minimalist when it comes to decor but comfortable. No complaints. We had the spinach artichoke dip which was great. It definitely seemed house made. It came with soft pita. If we ordered it again, we would ask for the house made chips for some crunch. My wife had the New York burger which had a perfectly runny egg and I had the Chicago burger with caramelized onions and onion rings which were really good too! All in all it was a nice experience.

We had something going on in Agawam so stopped into the back room for an earlyish dinner. I'm glad we got there early as it filled up quickly and parking can be a challenge. We sat at the bar, I had a gin and tonic and opted for the reuben and chips. All were great! The servers were amazing as well. If we're ever back that way again we'd definitely return.

So, the fam and I wrapped up a day at Six Flags down the road, and on the way out we looked for a nice place to grab a bit before the drive home. Back room Bar & Grill came up on our Yelp "nearby" list and, after taking a look at the menu, we set the GPS and headed over. Honestly, I was looking for a decent burger for the kids and maybe a nice meal for my wife and I. My wife heads in first while I'm parking the car, and calls to warn me, "It really is a pub; our kids would be the only kids there. Are you ok with that?" We discussed for a minute and felt, since we were here, we'll give it a try. My expectations were lowered when we walked in-- a square shaped bar dominated the center of the room, with some high tops on the edges and a couple low tables in the back corner. Televisions everywhere, noisy with a healthy young singles crowd vibe around the bar. Our waitress, Jenna, came to our table to start us off. One of the kids asked for fish and chips-- while they have a fish & chips sandwich, she checked with the kitchen and assured us they would make up a plate of fish and chips for him. The rest of the group ordered burgers, a garlic bread/sausage special, and I went for shrimp scampi. I wasn't prepared for what arrived. So remember I was expecting hi-hum bar food, maybe a semi decent burger. Everything that came was hugely elevated. The fish & chips were made from very fresh cod and battered after ordering; the breading was light and airy, with big pieces of fish inside a warm blanket. The French fries were seasoned perfectly and not too crispy/soggy/oily-- they were made just perfectly balanced. The burgers that came were fantastic-- ordered medium-rare, these were truly cooked exactly to order. Pink on the inside with a nice faint char on the exterior, fresh condiments and a soft bun. The shrimp scampi was a weekly special, but again, cooked perfectly. Huge shrimp on a small bed of angel hair with capers, peppers, and a light garlic sauce that imparted more flavor than heaviness. My only criticism would be that there wasn't enough pasta to really balance the dish's mass-- about 50% more would have hit perfection but... the flavors. Spot on, and huge shrimp! Nick, the owner came to our table three times to see how we were doing and chat a bit. He explained that while he loves the regular crowd, he was really happy to see more families patronize his restaurant so that it becomes a place where locals really love to come together and not feel like it's strictly a bar. If they convert some of the high tops to low tables, I think he may be onto something here... (high tops and kids definitely do not mix, thinking back to how my son fell off his stool when he was single-digits). But everyone at the restaurant was so welcoming and wonderful, we've decided we'll come back to visit Nick & Jenna again (soon) when we next come to the amusement park... and perhaps on a trip solely to visit the restaurant regardless! Note that as it has a large bar, the noise level might be too much for very young kids (we had to speak a bit loudly to hear above the crowd), and also perhaps a bit loud for a quiet romantic date, but honestly... you'll be too happy enjoying the ambiance and food to really care. Six stars for this place, if Yelp had such a thing.

We came here tonight after spending the day at The Big E. I saw other reviews and was sold. I have to agree that the burgers are really good and my boyfriend's Reuben was quite tasty as well. Our server was wonderful and very attentive to filling our drinks. The owner Nick even came over to our table to say hello and ask how everything was. What a great experience we had. Definitely be back when we are in town again.
